My little ol’Grandma used to say, “if you want to be interesting, be interested…” In your conversations, rather than trying to come up with something mind blowing to say to someone, try keeping your mind open and asking questions instead! People love to talk about themselves! You will be amazed to discover that when you get out of your own way, you will know exactly what to say and people will rave about what a great conversationalist you are!

Dreams Can Come True

Einstein said that “imagination is more important than knowledge.” “Logic”, he added, “will get you from A to B, but imagination will take you everywhere. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” To be successful we need to combine the reality skills we have learned as adults with the imagination we are innately gifted with as children.

Life is ours to live, and what really are we doing with our lives? Are we living the life we’ve always dreamed of? Or are we living our lives comfortably miserable? We all have a song to sing, so don’t let your music die inside of you. Follow your heart, take risks, throw caution to the wind, and go for your dreams. Never never never give up.

Learning from Mistakes

There are no mistakes, only lessons. Instead of allowing mistakes to stop you from achieveing your goal, use them as an opportunity to learn and then change your direction. Just because something you did failed does not mean you are a failure. Dont take failure personally. Instead, fail your way to success!

What Happened to America?

According to recent studies, America is the 3rd least happy country in the world! But how can this be? We are supposed to be America the Beautiful, the Land of the Free, with limitless opportunity and abudance for all! So how is that Americans are so unhappy? Do we expect too much from life and are thus disappointed when something doesnt go our way? Or are we just complacent and indifferent taking our lives of convenience for granted? Where or where did America go?

Perhaps, third world countries across the globe are happier than we are beause they have not lost sight of what is really important. They still understand what is really important to lead a fullfilled life: being a part of something bigger than yourself, making a difference, showing kindness, and having compassion for others. We can learn a few things from these countries about happiness as well as our collective experience in America over the past 50 years….all the riches in the world will not fill a vacant heart. Its the relationships in our lives that matter most, the moments in time captured by a word, a smile, a laugh…and its the expression of those that determines our happiness.

Its not too late to reclaim our country! To get back to our roots, to re-evaluate our priorties, to take a stand for what is really important in our lives. Take back your country, define again what does it mean to be American? Look to your own heart first and then share what you discover with the world! After all, isnt that what America is all about?

We often live our lives as if we have forever, but the truth is, we dont! Recently, I spoke to Emma, a 96 year old woman who said she only had one regret, only one that cost her so many dreams and opportunites. And that regret was RISK. She wished she would have taken more chances, thrown caution to the wind and really lived! Sitting across from her, I knew she hit a nerve with me as I too had shrunk instead of listening to my inner voice and standing tall, when I allowed what I thought others would think of me to keep me numb and unmoved! But never again! What others think of us, is none of our business! Of course we are going to look like a jerk sometimes and we may be standing alone as being a leader is not always easy…..but in the end who really cares? At least at the end of our life we will look back and say we risked and played a big game in the face of comfort and mediocrity……

Overcoming Fear

Often times we allow fear to stop us from achieving our dreams and the biggest fear we have is fear of failure. But what is failure really? Failure is simply an illusion created by the Ego to keep us small, safe, and suffering. For there is no such thing as failure there are only lessons, opportunities to learn. Once we realize this we are liberated from fear, it no longer has any control over us. When we let go of the story of what we think it means about us from failing then who we can become opens up. Take the first step, dont worry about how you will take the next and the next, just put one foot in front of the other and before you know it, you will have scaled the mountain. Yes the same one that you looked up at in fear and anticipation….
